‘Scandal’ dropped a crazy reveal about the Foxtail mystery: Olivia Pope took on the Navy in 'A Few Good Women,’ but a big Foxtail reveal stole the show. Image: ABC By Katherine Brodsky2015-05-08 05:08:30 UTC
As this week’s episode of Scandal reminds us, sometimes it takes a “A Few Good Women” to make things right, instead of turning a blind eye.
VP Susan Ross is not afraid to make waves to make sure that justice is done right for military rape victim, while Quinn and Huck aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty to find their answers about B613.
And yes, the truth about Foxtail finally emerges — well, part of it. But it’s a part that left fans stunned.
#FOXTAIL is… Mellie? What?! #Scandal pic.twitter.com/fJ5W3Xgx5a

MELLIE IS FOXTAIL. I CAN’T BREATHE. LITERALLY COULD NOT BREATHE FOR MINUTES. #scandal #foxtail

I’m so confused at the ending. So Mellie is Operation Foxtail? How, Sway? #Scandal

But let’s back up.
As the episode begins, Vice President Ross is on a routine photo op with navy personnel when she notices bruising on a woman’s wrists.
So, to the chagrin of Fitz and Cyrus, she literally brings the ensign, who she suspects has been raped, over to the White House in order to protect her, hoping to have the government intervene. But Fitz is not about to toss away 200 years of military self-jurisdiction — lest he be hung in the town square.
So, instead, Suzan calls in our favorite gladiator for help.
This is not going to be an easy win as the accused happens to be a decorated and celebrated Admiral who claims to not have even been in proximity to the ensign at the time. But Liv can’t prove his whereabouts without gaining access to the Navy’s logs, which are deemed too “sensitive.” Plus, they’ve been appointed a bumbling lawyer who’s never tried a rape case before.
So what does Olivia do? She calls Fitz. But he declines to intervene.

However, after a bonding chat with Mellie about her reluctance to speak at the town where her son Jerry died, Fitz tells Mellie that Liv’s advice to her would be to throw him under the bus. And despite saying he wouldn’t, Fitz gets those logs to Liv anyway.
Except, they only seem to confirm the Admiral’s alibi.
Worry not though. Liv figures out that the card swipes were being faked by the captain in order to cover up the rape, and she corroborates this via video footage.
Thus, the Admiral has no choice but to confess.
That’s when Mellie takes to the campaign trail to not talk about her son’s death, but rather about a system that allows for sexual abuse in the military, she even takes a few jabs at her Presidential husband for not doing enough. The move seems to boost her approval ratings (at least, judging by the applause).
Meanwhile, Russell is stuck next door to Olivia’s place being given the VIP treatment courtesy of Huck and Quinn (he’s being tortured). But Jake assures Olivia that Russell will never reveal the details behind Foxtail.
Survived #TheWalkingDead Gore but why does @KatieQLowes and Huck’s torture methods seem far worse? #Scandal

Jake tries a different approach. He heads over next door with beer in his hand and basically has a bitch session with Russell about Command. The whole thing culminates when the two new friends take turns doing impressions of Papa Pope. It would be sweet, if it wasn’t so twisted.
Trouble is, there’s just way too many B613 agent to keep track of on this show. Turns out that the goofy lawyer assigned to the navy case is in fact yet another in a string of B613 goons, and he manages to grab Russell.
As OPA are left without their only link to the mystery that is Foxtail, we hear an agent refer to Mellie by that name when bringing her into a meeting with…Rowan.
With next week’s season finale, who knows what craziness is bound to go down. We’ll be watching.
